2017 MCF Fundraiser Concert
You could have cut the air with a knife from the electricity and anticipation. The buzz emanated from the new and returning fans of Spencer Day at his recent June 10 performance at the AVO Playhouse in historic downtown Vista.
Spencer (who is a modern jazz singer/songwriter), his three longtime musical collaborators, and the 6-piece horn section of the Budman/Levi Orchestra wowed the audience with selections from his new CD release, “Angel City,” as well as big band, pop and jazz songs from his other releases. His lush and “oh, so smooth” vocals were supplemented between songs with his witty, sparkling humor and great storytelling.
The show was over too quickly, and as the evening came to a close, Spencer was mobbed in the Playhouse lobby by fans wanting photo ops and autographs. It took a small act of Congress to break him away and get him next door to the Belching Beaver Brewery for the post meet and greet event. Spencer creates such a bond with all his audiences, they simply did not want to let him go.
Talent this genuine and good is rare today. I am so proud to have been able to share Spencer and his amazing talent with Vista, for such a deserving beneficiary as the Moonlight Cultural Foundation.
To quote a line from “Angel City:”
I believe in the Hollywood ending…
I really do.
